Our Beloved Greece
The moment you arrive in Greece you will notice the light. There is something extra special about the light there that makes the blues truer, the sky deeper, and the sea even more infinite. You will hear a glorious symphony of distant mopeds, laughter, the clanking of glasses and birds chirping welcoming you to this ancient place. You’ll smell the daily fresh baked bread, pastries, and savory slow-roasted meats. The wild oregano from the mountainsides will draw you like a Mediterranean dream. As you rest on the beach your tanned hands will sift through the fine sand that outlines this beautiful country. Finally, you will taste the incredible food of Greece. You will experience the bold, clean flavors that highlight the heart of Greece’s soul.
Greece is known for its rich culture that spans every century from ancient to modern. The architecture is truly unique and a deep historical experience. For the traveler, Greece is a destination unparalleled by its beauty, adventure, and culture. The landscape is diverse, from cactus and desert, to tropical and lush, from mountain peaks that span to the gods to magnificent beaches that stretch to the sea. The music is transcendent and will cause your heart to dance. Greece is known for its crystal clear water that glistens like rare sapphire and reflects a beckoning deep turquoise blue that beckons you. You float in the warmth of the sea with not a care in the world, enveloped in grace. Greece is known for its top-rated beaches and boasts unforgettable swimming and diving.
Elli Milan has had a love affair with Greece since she was a child. Her father is Greek and was born and raised in Thessaloniki. This is what she says about the country of her heritage:
“My bones belong in Greece. They know when they are home. They rattle and stir and stand firm like a soldier, ready to take part. They come to life in the salty, balmy air and keenly sense the extraordinary light that shifts over the mountains and illuminates the sea. Even as a child, I identified with Greeks and Greek culture when I saw replicas of ancient pottery depicting Olympians, muses, and gods. I saw myself immortalized on these pots, doing great feats with my wild hair twisting down like ropes over my Grecian dress.
A Greek is loud and brazen. She is bold and makes no apologies for it. She will never sit on the sidelines and be a non-participant but rather believes her opinion must be heard. A Greek wears the divine character to influence the world with just a few strokes of her pen, the touch of her brush, or the utterance of her philosophy. A Greek is an eternal warrior fiercely devoted to her cause, even unto death.”
What Dimitra says about Greece, "As soon as the plane lands, I breathe in inspiration. The warm fresh air touches my skin, and I know that I am home. Even though I wasn't born there, every time I go I feel a great sense of destiny and belonging. Greece is the most magical place on earth, it's a piece of heaven here for us to enjoy. Each time I go, I am filled with such joy and peaceful bliss. After one dip in the sea, I feel my best self... I feel the ultimate freedom. It's hard to explain, but there's a freedom here that brings out confidence in yourself. It's powerful. Inspiration surges through me, I always get the best ideas for my paintings while I travel here. Greece reminds me of the life I want to live."
